Karoline Leavitt Jokes That Trump’s Truth Social Post Helped Shedeur Sanders Get Drafted: ‘The Facts Speak for Themselves’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt joked that President Donald Trump deserved some credit for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders getting drafted during a briefing on Monday.

Throughout the NFL Draft, Sanders — the son of football great and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders — was the story of the weekend due to his stunning slide down the board. Although many analysts predicted that Sanders would either be the first or second quarterback taken in the first round. Instead, Sanders was forced to watch several QBs taken ahead of him before he finally got a phone call from the Cleveland Brown in the fifth round, becoming the 144th overall pick.

The supposed unwillingness of teams to draft Sanders throughout the weekend sparked outrage among football fans, with some outright accusing teams of deliberately making him wait to “humble” him. Days prior, an anonymous NFL coach slammed the 23-year-old as arrogant and entitled.

The story even made its way to the White House. On Friday — the day of the second and third rounds — Trump took to Truth Social to call owners “stupid” for not taking the QB.

During Monday morning’s White House briefing, Fox’s Peter Doocy jokingly asked if Trump was taking credit for the Browns eventually drafting Sanders.

“Hey, I will say is the president put out a statement, and a few rounds later, he was drafted,” Leavitt said with a laugh. “So I think the facts speak for themselves on that one, Peter.”
