Kevin Durant Awkwardly Rejects Generic Reporting from NBA on TNT Host: ‘Is That a Real Question?’
After playing just 35 games in the last two years, injuries may have forced NBA fans and analysts to forget how good Kevin Durant is. But Durant clearly didn’t forget.
Led by Durant, the Brooklyn Nets played arguably their most dominant game of the NBA season Monday night, blowing out the Milwaukee Bucks 125-88. After the win, the two-time NBA champion and two-time MVP was asked to reflect on overcoming his devastating Achilles injury.
“Tomorrow will mark two years since you initially injured your calf,” NBA on TNT reporter Jared Greenberg said. “I know you worked your butt off to get to this point, but did you ever think you’d be this good?”
Seeming uninterested in wasting his time with a generic question, Durant responded as such. “Is that a real question? What you want me to say to that? Of course I did.”
“I mean it’s pretty impressive what you’ve been able to do,” Greenberg replied.
Durant could have doubled down to reiterate his disinterest in generic questions, but the Nets star decided to give a more politically correct answer.
“Thank you. I appreciate that,” Durant said. “But I mean that was two years ago. I’m looking forward to just getting up tomorrow, going to practice, watching film and seeing how we can get better. I appreciate that, but that was too long ago.”
Greenberg took the slight from Durant as constructive criticism, telling the superstar, “I’ll come up with some more real questions for you next time. Thanks, Kevin.”
This wasn’t the first time Durant had an issue with a TNT broadcast. Earlier this season, Durant gave the Inside the NBA crew an uncomfortably bland interview, featuring quiet one-word answers, days after Charles Barkley ripped his Nets teammate Kyrie Irving. Although Monday night’s performance won’t enter the broadcasting hall-of-fame, Durant was a little more lively this time around.
