NFL Legend Steve Smith Sr. Delivers Scathing Message to Broncos Receiver Jerry Jeudy After Tense Pregame Exchange
Denver Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy on Thursday unleashed the fury of former receiver Steve Smith Sr. after a conversation between the two went south.
During the NFL Network’s pregame coverage of the game between the Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, Smith — who works as an analyst for the network — revealed he spoke with Jeudy just moments before. In the past, Smith noted, he’s been very critical of Jeudy, feeling that the receiver is not living up to his potential as a first-round pick.
On Thursday, Smith acknowledged that Jeudy’s performances have improved lately and he wanted to apologize to the young receiver for his harsh words.
Jeudy, however, wasn’t having it.
“His response was, ‘Ninja — I’m just using the word ‘ninja’ — I don’t mess with you,’ and it was a curse word,” Smith said. “So I was like, ‘Alright,’ and he repeated it. So I’ll say it again: I’m sorry that I said you were a JAG — just a guy — who’s an average wide receiver they used a first-round pick on, that isn’t doing anything.”
He continued:
I hope today that you actually show up in a way that you haven’t showed up in the last couple years since they drafted you. So if you ever got a problem with Agent 89, I’m sorry for saying that you’re an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on (from); and when teams call me and ask should they trade for you, I will say no. Don’t trade for Jerry Jeudy because he is mentally unable to hand constructive criticism from people who watch specifically (to see) can he be a wide receiver. He can be a wide receiver. He’s a tier-three.
Smith then told them to “go back to the studio” before dropping his microphone.
Immediately after Smith’s rant, Jeudy was seen bouncing around the sidelines, seemingly motivated by their interaction.

Jeudy finished with just three catches for 14 yards as the team lost 19-8. After the game, Jeudy claimed he didn’t remember what was said during his and Smith’s conversation.
