‘No Way!’ Mariners Fan Wearing ‘Dump 61 Here’ Shirt Catches Cal Raleigh’s 61st Home Run

Halloween is still three weeks away, but spooky season was in full swing at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.

The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers squared off for Game 3 in the American League Divisional Series in Motown, where the Mariners prevailed 8-4 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

With the Mariners leading 6-1 in the top of the ninth, MVP contender Cal Raleigh, a.k.a. “The Big Dumper” due to his large posterior, cranked a two-run home run to the opposite field in left. The ball landed in the Seattle bullpen and bounced up to a lone Mariners fan in the first row. It was Raleigh’s first homer of the postseason, on top of the 60 he hit during the regular season.

After Seattle’s catcher rounded the bases, the Fox Sports broadcasting crew noted that the fan who ended up with the ball was wearing an unusual, if not prophetic shirt.

“He literally has a shirt that says ‘Dump Here,’ and he got the home run on a bounce… for number 61,” observed Adam Amin.

“No way,” reacted Adam Wainwright.

“Could not have been scripted better,” Amin said.

While the game continued, the crew dwelt a bit on the unreal coincidence and noticed that the fan removed his shirt to reveal a similarly bespoke piece of clothing.

“So, he’s got the 61 shirt, he’s got a 62 shirt!” Amid exclamed.

“No way,” Wainwright said in disbelief.

“That’s just impressive preparation,” Amin said.

The winner of the series will go on to play either the New York Yankees or Toronto Blue Jays. Back in July, the YES camera crew fixated on Raleigh’s rear end for an extended period of time, prompting Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay to say he had seen enough.

“We’ve seen it,” Kay said. “We know why the nickname is the nickname, and we’re good. We’re good.”
