‘That Was Not a Typical Walk!’ Shaq Rushes Off the Set of Inside the NBA to Use the Bathroom Live on Air
A discussion on Monday night’s episode of Inside the NBA was temporarily halted when Shaquille O’Neal suddenly jogged off set to use the bathroom.
Near the end of the show, the crew was breaking down the playoff game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets. As Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith were talking about the performance from Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, O’Neal stood up and walked away from the desk. A concerned Barkley asked, “You alright, big fella?” while Smith asked O’Neal if he was catching a cramp.
It wasn’t a cramp.
“Go ahead,” O’Neal said as he dashed off set. “Keep talking, Jet.”
When Barkley pointed out the fact they were live, O’Neal simply responded with “I know, but go ahead.” Then, Smith joked that O’Neal’s sudden urge to use the bathroom was a result of him drinking olive oil. O’Neal shot back, “I know.”
As O’Neal left the studio, Smith, Barkley, and host Ernie Johnson were still processing what just happened.
SMITH: Hey, listen, he couldn’t hold it.
BARKLEY: He can’t hold it.
SMITH: After 40, you can’t hold it no more, Ernie.
JOHNSON: That’s a first, unless he’s got something — that wasn’t something planned, was it?
SMITH: No.
BARKLEY: It was not planned.
SMITH: Hey, listen, he was in the back talking about he was gonna drink alcohol to clear up his gut.
BARKLEY: No, no, he’s been drinking that olive oil!
SMITH: It’s cleaning his gut, alright!
JOHNSON: I did not like his gait as he left. That was not a typical walk right there!
BARKLEY: He read somewhere that if you drink a shot of olive oil–
JOHNSON: I saw them doing that the other day in the makeup room!
BARKLEY: They’ve been doing it, they’re gonna do it, you have to do it for two weeks.
JOHNSON: Well, he’s gonna miss a lot of airtime then!
BARKLEY: I just hope we got enough matches around here.
SMITH: Please turn his mic off. That’s all I’m saying.
JOHNSON: That’s another issue.
O’Neal’s departure lasted roughly a minute and a half. When he returned, he made sure to clarify that it was only “number one.”
“I don’t need any more details than that,” Johnson said.
