‘The Media’s So Dumb!’ Travis Kelce Trashes the Press as a ‘Bunch of Jackasses’ for Their Criticism of a Prominent Coach

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce slammed NFL media for reports speculating that the Pittsburgh Steelers will considering firing head coach Mike Tomlin.

Heading into Week 18 of the 2023 season, the Steelers were 9-7. Regardless of the result of their regular season finale, the Steelers were guaranteed to finish with a win percentage above .500. The team has yet to finish under .500 in the 17 years Tomlin has been coach.

On Thursday’s episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis — and his brother Jason Kelce — marveled at the streak while shaming the media for suggesting one of the most successful active coaches could lose his job.

“They were talking about firing him, what, seven weeks ago?” Jason said.

Travis seemed sick of the narrative.

“The media is so dumb,” he said. “Why do we do the media? Just a bunch of jackasses just out here talking fucking nonsense. One of the best coaches the NFL’s ever even seen, about to possibly get his 17th consecutive non-losing season. Jesus Christ.”

The media aren’t the only ones talking about it, however. Despite the team being in the playoff conversation each year, the Steelers haven’t been viewed as true Super Bowl contenders in years and some fans are growing tired of it.

The team already fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada earlier in the season, but it’s not unreasonable to think Tomlin could also be shown the door if the team doesn’t make the playoffs this season.
