‘They Got Their A** Kicked!’ Stephen A. Smith Says He Was ‘Shell-Shocked’ By Super Bowl Blowout

Stephen A. Smith on Monday said he was “shell-shocked” by Kansas City Chiefs’ blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

On Sunday, the Chiefs sought to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. The game, however, was never close. The Eagles went into the half up 24-0, forcing Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes into two interceptions and limiting the Chiefs’ offense to just a single first down. In fact, the Eagles had more points in the first half (24) than the Chiefs had total yards of offense (23).

The dominant showing continued throughout the second half as the Eagles won 40-22.

Speaking on First Take, Smith explained why he — like so many — was stunned by the game.

“He deserved to be the MVP of the Super Bowl,” Smith said of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. “Props and congrats to him; but I still sit here shell-shocked by what we witnessed. The Chiefs didn’t lose. They got their ass kicked. I mean, they got, they got stomped. They got it handed to them. And to see Patrick Mahome sitting on the bench, just draped in humility, it was like, damn. You saw Travis Kelce was like, ‘Damn, ain’t nothing we could do.’

“And you know, as bad as it was and as bad as it looked, the offensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs got destroyed. Now, Philadelphia Eagles were up 24-0 at the half. We can’t forget the fact that Patrick Mahomes threw a pick-six. We can’t forget the fact that he threw another interception at their own 14-yard line. So you basically the gave Philadelphia Eagles 14. But it was because he was tap dancing in the pocket like the late, great Gregory Hines — God rest his soul. I mean, that brother was tap dancing after the first possession! You just saw this look like, ‘What the hell is going on here?'”
