Yankees Announcer Michael Kay Torches Caller Accusing Him of Being in the Tank for the Home Team: ‘You Clown!’
Longtime Yankees announcer Michael Kay went off on a caller for accusing him of being too lenient on the team amid its recent struggles.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Michael Kay Show, a man identified as Mike from New Jersey called Kay a “Yankee boy” for his apparent refusal to criticize the team. He basically claimed that Kay would rather protect his relationships with members of the organization than offer fair criticism.
Kay took immediate offense to the idea.
“You know what, jerk-off?” Kay responded. “You want me to hang up on you, don’t you? I’m not gonna hang up on you! I’m gonna let you spew your nonsense! All I do is sit here and criticize the Yankees every day! Are you hard of hearing? Are you hard of hearing, Mike?”
When Mike said Kay has been soft on his criticism of Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Kay explained how the point he’s made in the past is that Boone simply “acts in concert with the front office.”
“What do you want me to do?” Kay asked. “I don’t understand what you want me to do, Mike. Go find it somewhere else! Tell me who’s saying stuff like this!”
Mike predicted that Kay would eventually hang up on him out of frustration. Kay insisted he’d let him keep talking.
“You want me to hang up on you, you clown!” Kay said. “You want me to hang up on you! I am gonna let you bury yourself! I’m not gonna hang up on you! You deserve to be exposed as a moron! Go! Continue to go! You’ve got the radio! Go, Mike! Go! Keep going!”
