’10-Point Shift Against the President’: Karl Rove Talks Trump’s Plummeting Approval Rating on Fox News
Fox News contributor Karl Rove argued that America was “not ready for” the chaos of the second Trump administration in an appearance on the network heading into Easter weekend, arguing that the president’s missteps had led to a “10-point shift” against him.
During a discussion about Rove’s latest column for The Wall Street Journal, in which the legendary GOP political strategist submitted that “many Americans are already exhausted” by President Donald Trump and his thirst for “revenge,” Rove expanded upon his observation that “in the non-MAGA world—which includes independents and Republicans—the start of Mr. Trump’s second term has been exhausting.”
“My point is there’s a lot of stuff that’s been going on like — ‘We’re going to take Greenland by force if necessary, we’re gonna rename the Gulf of Mexico, we’e gonna take back the Panama Canal’ — there’s a lot stuff going on that we were not prepared for, and the time being devoted to that is time that is not being devoted to the things that we need to know more about and celebrate the success,” began Rove. “He [Trump] has yet to visit the southern border. I live in a border state; the change has been dramatic and the president would, in my opinion, advance his cause if he spent less time talking about side issues and more time focused on the big issues.”
He continued:
Let me give you an example — we just saw it. The administration is in possession of a lot of information about this guy from Maryland who’s now in El Salvador. And yet, today was the first time the president addressed those things. What if he had said at the beginning of all of this controversy, “Here’s the background we know about this guy. I’m happy to have him brought back to the U.S., and if you want, we’ll adjudicate it in a court, and we’ll throw all of the stuff out there, and the result will still be the same. He going back to El Salvador and not staying in Maryland.”
Instead, we’ve spent a week where this has been periodically popping up on the news and being an item of controversy. Solve the problem immediately, move on, and stay focused on the big things that people care about. That’s the way that you can solidify the support that the American people have. It’s not happening. All this scatter has resulted in basically a 10-point shift against the president on the RealClearPolitics average of approve, disapprove. And I think it’s part of it, people are getting exhausted.
