A Flustered Donald Trump Tries to Clarify Why He Attacked John McCain
Donald Trump opened his mouth and let slip forth a word salad in trying to clarify why he attacked John McCain‘s war hero status.
Moments after Trump got off the stage where he literally said “He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured,” reporters––even ones from conservative outlets––asked him what the hell he was jabbering about.
“If a person is captured,” Trump said, “they’re a hero as far as I am concerned… But you have to do other things also.”
He tweeted this out as well afterwards:
Captured or not, all our soldiers are heroes!

Again, he literally said earlier, “He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Trump also released a non-apologetic statement attacking McCain for not doing enough to help vets, making the ironic observation that he’s too busy clamoring for media attention to take this issue seriously:

Take note of how the last sentence is just Trump bragging about the size of his standing ovation.
