AG Nominee Barr Says He Won’t Remove Mueller: Didn’t Work Out So Well During Watergate…

AG nominee William Barr said several times during today’s Senate hearing he would not interfere with Robert Mueller‘s work.

At one point, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) asked him about his views on the special counsel and how much he would release from the final report.

Tillis also asked him about previous comments he’s made about not imagining a scenario where he would have to remove Mueller from his position.

Barr responded, “That’s right. There hasn’t been a special counsel removed since Archibald Cox and that didn’t work out.”

He is, of course, referring to the infamous firing of Cox ordered by Richard Nixon in the midst of the Watergate scandal. It’s now known as the Saturday Night Massacre.
