Aircraft Carrier Commander Relieved Of Duties After Producing Homophobic Videos

Capt. Owen Honors, the commander of the aircraft carrier Enterprise discovered to have produced weird homophobic PSA-esque videos for the ship’s “movie night” has been temporarily relieved of his duties as captain.

The videos, produced under his command four to five years ago and sometimes depicting scantily-clad soldiers and using homophobic slurs, were intended to highlight good behavior on the ship. Honors appeared and acted in the videos himself, sometimes in a shower cap, mocking “the gay kids” in another shower. NBC first broke the news this evening, citing Navy officials who described the videos as “clearly inappropriate” and “not acceptable in today’s Navy,” particularly in light of the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. The suspension will begin immediately, meaning Capt. Honors will not be sailing with the ship’s crew in some weeks when they return to Afghanistan. Investigations are also underway for how Honors was promoted despite the videos having been produced four to five years ago.
