Al Jazeera Reporter Breaks Down On-Air, Walks Off Report from Gaza
Doing your job from a war zone is undoubtedly one of the most difficult things a reporter can do. It can leave you tongue-tied, or leave you shattered.
Al Jazeera’s Gaza-based correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh seemingly experienced the latter this weekend, when he began sobbing on-air during a live report from the center of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Al-Dahdouh, wearing a helmet and bulletproof vest with a press badge, was reporting on the 87 Palestinian civilian deaths resulting from a recent Israeli airstrike. As he began crying, he paused his speaking, eventually turning to walk off-set. Even though he leaves the camera’s focus, he can be heard sobbing off-camera.
