Awww: High School Teacher Proposed To During School’s Performance Of The Wedding Singer

Yesterday, a New Jersey high school substitute teacher, Chanelle Wilson, got a lovely surprise during the school’s production of the musical The Wedding Singer. No, sophomore Susie Cunningham didn’t finally remember her choreography for the act one finale. Even better! During a song in which one character proposes to another, the teacher’s boyfriend appeared on stage, the music stopped, and he proposed.

See, Hollywood? Live theater can still do 3D effects way better than you ever can!

From CBS Philly:

“Chanelle Wilson was watching the production during the song ‘Pop’ with her students at Cherry Hill High School West when her real-life boyfriend, Justin Poe, walked out on stage with a bouquet of flowers—and a ring.

‘Miss Wilson, can you come up to the front, please?’ Poe asked, earning audible gasps from the audience.

Poe then proceeded to get down on one knee and “pop the question,” and–accompanied by wild cheering from the audience–was rewarded with a positive answer from a visibly stunned Wilson, his girlfriend of five years.”

Video of the proposal is already online and it is indeed adorable. However, having done a couple high school musicals in my day (Hopewell Valley Performing Arts Department represent!), I can’t help but think that not everyone was thrilled by this. You just know that there was some 17 year old aspiring actor sulking around backstage:

“What an attention hog! This is totally ruining the pacing of the entire show! I can barely even do my big solo now! Harumph!”
