Axelrod: Hillary Made ‘Poor Choice’ Calling Republicans ‘Enemies’ In Debate

Former Obama advisor David Axelrod said on CNN’s New Day that Hillary Clinton made a mistake when she listed Republicans among her “enemies” during the first Democratic debate.

Axelrod made the comments after a video of Vice President Joe Biden subtly criticized Clinton during his speech Wednesday. “I don’t think we should look at Republicans as our enemies,” Biden said. “They are opposition. They are not our enemies.”

“Well I think you know what he was doing with that speech,” Axelrod said. “That was an obvious reference to what Hillary had said in the debate, in which she listed the Republicans among her enemies.”

He continued to say that he thought it was an “odd thing to do” for Clinton, given that her closing statement “was all about building bridges and getting things to work better and bringing people together.”

“So it was probably a poor choice on her part, although it played well in a room full of Democrats,” Axelrod concluded. “And I think Biden was giving her a little poke.”
