Biden Biographer Calls Admin Most ‘Scripted White House in Modern History’, Says It’s ‘Obsessed With Controlling the Narrative’

Chris Whipple, the author of a 2023 biography of President Joe Biden, described the Biden White House as the most “scripted” in “modern history” on Tuesday.

During a CNN panel discussion about growing concerns over Biden’s age and alleged cognitive decline, Whipple told CNN NewsNight host Abby Phillip:

The thing to understand here is that the DNA of this White House is controlling the narrative, and I can tell you, having written a book about it, that this White House is the most batten down, buttoned up, scripted White House in modern history. So while I was able to interview in real time almost all of Joe Biden’s inner circle, when it came to Biden himself, the deal was written answers to written questions. I’d never heard of that before.

Asked whether the arrangement was a “red flag” for him at the time, Whipple – who wrote the 2023 biography The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House – replied, “You can look at it two ways. I mean, this is obviously a White House either with something to hide or just obsessed with controlling the narrative.”

Phillip concluded, “It’s a little bit surprising, a little stunning that someone– you’re writing a biography of the president, and he wouldn’t talk to you over the phone, on zoom, anything like that.”

During the appearance, Whipple also revealed that one of Biden’s “closest friends” thinks the president should undergo “a complete neurological exam” at the Walter Reed Medical Center and release the results to the public in response to concerns about his cognitive health.
