Biden Blasts Senate GOP: ‘Ridiculous, There Is No Biden Rule, It Doesn’t Exist’

bidenVice President Joe Biden delivered a speech today on Republican Senate obstruction on President Obama and addressed the Republicans invoking the so-called “Biden rule.”

Just to recap, back in 1992, as a senator Biden made some remarks on the Senate floor about not taking up a nominee pushed by George H.W. Bush in an election year. It’s not a completely fair comparison, but given Biden’s general comments then about SCOTUS nominees, Republicans have repeatedly cited the “Biden rule” to justify their decision.

Well, today the veep literally buried his heads in his hands before saying that this is unprecedented and all presidential Supreme Court nominees get votes––”not much of the time, not most of the time, every single solitary time.”

“So now I hear,” he said, “all this talk about the Biden rule. It’s frankly ridiculous, there is no Biden rule, it doesn’t exist. There’s only one rule I ever followed… it was the Constitution’s clear rule of advice and consent.”
