Boehner Accuses Obama of ‘Taking a Nap’ on Iraq

During his press conference on Thursday morning, Speaker of the House John Boehner gave a rather pointed criticism of President Obama‘s handling of the unfolding Sunni rebellion in Iraq.

As Boehner prepared to exit the podium, a reporter asked him about the situation involving militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant having seized Iraq’s second-largest city and currently marching towards the capital city of Baghdad. Iraqi officials have also reportedly asked the U.S. to launch airstrikes.

Boehner responded to the question by suggesting the U.S. should provide equipment and technical assistance, but refused to comment on whether American forces should or should not launch airstrikes. He then tore into the president:

It’s not like we haven’t seen this problem coming for over a year. And it’s not like we haven’t seen, over the last five or six months, these terrorists moving in and taking control of western Iraq, now they’ve taken control of Mosul, they’re a hundred miles from Baghdad. And what’s the president doing? Taking a nap.

He then walked off-stage.
