Brian Williams Will Head Breaking News Coverage at MSNBC

brianwilliamsNBC has officially announced today that Brian Williams will be returning to the NBC News family, but not as the nightly news anchor. No, Williams will now head breaking news coverage on MSNBC.

Lester Holt, who has been filling in on NBC Nightly News since Williams was suspended, has been named the permanent anchor of that program.

Williams will be returning to familiar ground, as he previously anchored The News with Brian Williams for both MSNBC and CNBC, from 1996 to 2004. At MSNBC, he will now be “an anchor of breaking news and special reports.”

He will also serve as a “breaking news anchor” to fill in for Holt when the new NBC Nightly News anchor is unavailable.

It’s also been confirmed that Williams will open up for the first time since being caught exaggerating many tales with Matt Lauer in an interview scheduled for tomorrow.
