Chris Matthews: Birther Issue Is “One Of These Geraldo Rivera Things”
He will never live it down. Discussing the Barack Obama birth certificate non-issue that will never die with resident birther expert David Weigel, Chris Matthews grasped for straws in trying to make an analogy between a past instant of something people were passionate about that was equally ridiculous. What he came up with? Geraldo Rivera‘s infamous excavation of “Al Capone‘s” Vault.
Upon being told by Weigel that it is possible the birther issue will continue even after all legal birth certificate information is released because of rumors that Obama secretly traveled to Pakistan during college to perform a mission for the CIA, Matthews sighs, and asks:
“Is this going to be one of those Geraldo Rivera things, where we go into the vault, and we finally get into the vault, and there’s nothing there? The Al Capone records are just going to be in this case, ‘yeah, he was born in ’61 and yeah, his father came from Kenya, and, yeah, his mother came from Kansas, and yeah, he was born in America, and, yeah, what showed up in the newspapers at the time was accurate and blah blah blah…’ who cares?”
Poor Geraldo, he can never catch a break, can he?
