Chris Matthews Explores Sarah Palin’s “Maybe” Run For President

Remember when Sarah Palin said she’d run for president if no other candidate wowed her? Chris Matthews saw it, as did the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein and USA Today’s Susan Page…and all three of them read Palin’s “maybe” as “she’s doing it.”

Matthews noted, though, a recent article from London’s Daily Telegraph in which Karl Rove said the following about Palin:

“With all due candour, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel, I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of ‘that helps me see you in the Oval Office’.”

Matthews pointed out that Palin’s show is actually on TLC, Page called the show “one more interesting, brilliant, different, unconventional step” Palin’s taken, and that Rove’s criticism was “missing the point.”

Matthews also thought that the race for the Republican nomination might boil down to Palin “against the boys’ club,” which also could play into her hands. Page and Stein also thought the early primary/caucus race would favor Palin, and that it generally sets up too well for her not to run.

The best line, though, was when Page, in saying she thinks Palin will eventually decide to run, said on an MSNBC program, “She’s definitely leaning forward, it seems to me.” It didn’t even sound like she meant it as a subtle dig at the network, but you can decide by watching video of the segment below.
