Christiane Amanpour Lands Rare Interview With Palestinian & Israeli Officials

Today on ABC’s This Week, host Christiane Amanpour landed a rare double interview with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Israeli Opposition Leader and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni — a big get for a Sunday talk show — to talk about the currently stalled negotiation talks between Israel and Palestine. Amanpour made sure to stress to viewers that it is “exceedingly rare” to get an interview with two top-level officials from Palestine and Israel together.

When Amanpour took the reins as the host of This Week, she — and ABC News — promised to use her extensive experience as an international reporter to bring “international perspective” and a global spin to the show. Amanpour has certainly been strong on that front, bringing in more international and outside-the-Beltway guests than traditional Sunday talk shows — from Gordon Brown to Hamid Karzai and countless others. However, it remains to be seen whether the very inside-the-Beltway crowd that watches Sunday shows most loyally will continue to tune in and welcome the recent international turn of the show.
