CNN Anchor Fareed Zakaria’s Wife is Reportedly Suing Him For a Divorce

The longtime wife of CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria is divorcing him, according to the New York Post.

Due to an “irretrievable breakdown,” Paula Throckmorton Zakaria — who works as a jewelry designer — filed for divorce last week after 21 years of marriage and three children with Zakaria.

Zakaria previously commented on his marriage troubles, saying in 2011, “It’s true that we’re having troubles and I have taken a small apartment a few blocks away, but I still live at our house most days of the week. We’re trying to work things out. Divorce is not on the horizon.”

While the specific cause of the couple’s relationship troubles are not known, Zakaria has commented — perhaps jokingly — on his family issues in the past.

“My fantasy dinner party would be with my three kids and my wife and the fantasy is my kids would all be incredibly charming and polite and engage with me and listen to me and not interrupt me,” Zakaria said in a Parade profile two years ago.

On a note unrelated to the divorce story, the New York Post reporter who broke the story about Zakaria’s marriage used her exclusive to jab at the corporate group Tronc for gutting the newsroom of rival tabloid the New York Daily News this week.

CORRECTION: This post previously misstated the date of Fareed Zakaria’s comments regarding his marriage as from 2018. The date has now been corrected to 2011.
