CNN Data Guru Claps Back at Biden for Dismissing Polls: ‘He Loved the Polls Four Years Ago’
CNN data analyst Harry Enten dinged President Joe Biden for dismissing polling data that shows him trailing in several key swing states.
During Tuesday’s OutFront, Erin Burnett played a clip of her interview with Biden last week in which the president doubted a spate of swing state polls showing him trailing former President Donald Trump.
“Now, when Biden and I spoke last week, he expressed disdain and frustration,” she said. “Here’s what he said.”
“The polling data has been wrong all along,” Biden said. “How many of you guys do a poll at CNN? How many folks do you have to call to get one response?”
The clip ended and Burnett turned to Enten.
“He doesn’t like the polls,” Burnett said to Enten. “He doesn’t like what they’re showing right now. Is he right or is it wishful thinking?”
“He loved the polls four years ago when they showed him ahead,” Enten retorted. “These are the same polls now.” But here’s the thing: the polls can be right at this point, and then keep in mind, we still have six months until the election. Polls can change plenty.”
Enten went on to note that historically, polls this far out from the presidential election are far off from the November results.
“On election day in the average battleground states, the polls were off six points since 1972,” he continued. “In 2020, they were off five points. So, if we’re talking about one, two-point leads in these battleground states, the polls could be showing one thing and then the other person could certainly win.
