CNN’s David Gregory: ‘Jim Comey Has Made This About Him’

David Gregory reacted to the big FBI news today by saying that “Jim Comey has made this about him.”

He said there was a revolt within the FBI, given agents there who “hate” the Clintons and wanted Hillary Clinton charged, which led to Comey needing to “publicly justify” why there were no charges.

And then, Gregory said, “he put his thumb on the scale 9 days ago” and stepped in when he could have investigated this “without impacting the election.”

He argued that the rule of law needs to be of paramount importance here, but “the FBI director allowed himself to be inserted into this”:

“He went beyond the scope. If you don’t charge, you don’t talk. That is what law enforcement does, that is what the legal community does. That is the standard. He had no reason to lean so far forward and say, ‘Nobody would have charged her.’ He was trying to justify his decision to Republicans who were critical and agents who were critical and then once you start, you can’t stop.”
