CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Reports Trump Looking to Do More Addresses Similar to His Controversial Election Talk

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported on Friday that she’s hearing President Donald Trump wants to give addresses to the nation similar to the controversial elections speech this week.

Collins joined her colleague John King on Friday evening and both agreed there’s been an unusually muted response to Trump’s speech from his most vocal supporters. In the speech, the president urged Congress to pass voter ID legislation and continued making claims about alleged fraudulence in the 2020 election. The speech sparked outrage from critics and Trump was accused of simply pushing election conspiracy theories.

Collins reported:

Normally, you know, if there’s a moment where we don’t take the president’s comments in full, we hear about it from the white house. They complain about it. We didn’t hear any complaints really today. I didn’t hear from officials usually that I that I’ve been talking to. And I think that says something because even Republicans themselves, beyond the most strident allies of this White House, were really quiet and muted about what the president had to say last night. You didn’t see a lot of them amplifying it beyond the few who got briefings ahead of time about what exactly it was that the president planned to say. And I think that really speaks whatever they were trying to achieve last night. If that was trying to get some of those Republicans who are not on board with the SAVE Act, they don’t appear to have been successful with that.

She added that it “remains to be seen” whether Trump will give similar addresses in the future, but he’s expressed an interest in it.

“I’m told that he wants to do more of these kinds of addresses on multiple different topics, talking to people. Whether or not the White House tries to recreate what they did last night still remains to be seen,” Collins said.
