CNN’s Scott Jennings Chalks Trump Third Term Talk Up to a ‘Fair Amount of Trolling’
CNN’s Scott Jennings chalked the talk about a third term for President Donald Trump up to “trolling” on Tuesday evening.
Host Laura Coates kicked off the segment by playing a clip of Trump saying:
I have my highest poll numbers that I’ve ever had. And, you know, based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run. So we’ll see what happens. It’s a very interesting thing. I have the best numbers for any president in many years, any president. And I would say that if you read it, it’s pretty clear I’m not allowed to run.
“Exhibit A for any Supreme Court justice looking at this very issue, commented Coates before asking Jennings: “But why do it? Is he just trying to make sure he’s not a lame duck?”
“I mean, you left out the last part, ‘But we have a lot of great people.’ He’s already touting the next iteration of the Republican leadership. And it’s gonna be Vance and Rubio,” answered Jennings. “I do believe he’s engaged in a fair amount of trolling, and all the same people who’ve fallen for every other troll are falling for this one.”
“Oh, you think it is trolling? You think he he’s not going to run?” inquired Coates.
“He’s been pretty clear he knows the Constitution does not permit it And he’s also said that these gimmicky ideas to get around it, he said ,quote, ‘would be too cute, the American people wouldn’t go for it,'” replied Jennings.
