Colbert Wags Finger at True Blood’s ‘Transparent Hollywood Attack’ on GOP

As both Stephen Colbert and Mediaite have noticed, Fox News’ Shepard Smith loves HBO’s True Blood. But after the show spent last week’s episode bashing conservatives as “assholes” and “Republicunts,” Colbert, at least, has turned his back on its sexy vampires.
Colbert called the episode a “transparent Hollywood attack on Republicans” that made his blood “truly boil.” The host singled out a particularly outraged response from conservative pundit Ben Shapiro, who feared that the show would give Ted Cruz negative connotations for the viewers who watched it.
“TV entertainment drives our political discourse,” Colbert agreed. “Remember, no one was talking about income inequality until the debut of 2 Broke Girls.” He added that no one should be surprised that Democrats are vampires. After all, “they scream when they see a cross.”
Besides condemnations from Fox News, the True Blood episode received direct denouncement from both Cruz and Sarah Palin, giving the show exactly the publicity boost it was looking for in its final season.
