Comer and Moskowitz Go at It in Hearing: ‘Take Your Medication and Leave!’
Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) continued their long-running feud during Thursday’s meeting of the House Oversight Committee.
Moskowitz went off on one of the committee’s witnesses, Mark Krikorian, the executive director of the right-wing Center for Immigration Studies. Krikorian had previously said that it would have been better for Haitians had they not revolted and ejected their French colonizers from the country in 1804.
“My guess is that Haiti’s so screwed up because it wasn’t colonized long enough,” Krikorian wrote in National Review in 2010 (emphasis his).
Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) asked Krikorian if he stands by those remarks and the witness said he did.
When it was Moskowitz’s turn to speak, he went off on Comer, first by mocking the chairman’s stalled investigations into President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. The Florida lawmaker then slammed Comer over Krikorian’s testimony.
“He literally brought a witness who proffered in this committee that the Haitian people would’ve been better off had they stayed in slavery for several more decades,” he said. “Mr. Chairman, I want you to spare you the embarrassment. You should strike his words from the record. No? You stand by your comment that the Haitian people would’ve been better off in slavery for 30 more years? Or should we strike that for the record.”
Comer remained silent until Moskowitz’s time was up.
“All right, you’re time’s expired,” Comer said. “I would love to be a fly on the wall when you find out that Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential election and his son pled guilty for corruption.
“Why didn’t you impeach him?!” Moskowitz asked. “Why didn’t you impeach him, Mr. Chairman? Where’s the impeachment vote?”
Comer recognized another member of the committee who mentioned Hunter Biden.
“Hunter Biden’s not the president!” Moskowitz protested.
Comer slammed the gavel and scolded his colleague.
“You need to take your medication and leave!” he said.
“Mr. Chairman, you’re several decades older than me,” Moskowitz shot back. “We know who’s taking more medication.”
Moskowitz was needling Comer, as the chair was born just eight years before him.
