Commish Bratton: Officers Turning Backs to de Blasio ‘Very Inappropriate’

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told Face the Nation Sunday morning that the protest by an indeterminate amount of NYPD officers, who turned their backs to Gotham Mayor Bill de Blasio during officer Rafael Ramos’ funeral yesterday, was inappropriate, especially for the solemn occasion.

“I certainly don’t support that action yesterday,” Bratton said. “I think it was very inappropriate at that event. That funeral was held to honor Officer Ramos. To bring politics, to bring issues into that event was very inappropriate, and I do not support it.”

“[De Blasio] is the mayor of New York,” Bratton continued. “He was there representing the citizens of New York, to express their remorse and regret at that death and it was inappropriate.”

Bratton emphasized on both his Sunday show appearances this morning that the tension between City Hall and the NYPD, which erupted after the ambush-style murder of two NYPD officers last weekend, was the result of numerous extrinsic factors, including a long-running contract dispute.
