Commissioner Bratton: Black Men Have Nothing to Fear from NYPD
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton appeared on CBS Evening News tonight to face questions about policing in the wake of the Eric Garner grand jury decision. Bratton told Scott Pelley that they’re carrying out some new training practices and retraining officers as part of planned changes to the department.
And then Pelley asked a pretty serious question: “What does a black man in New York City have to fear from the NYPD?”
Bratton responded, “Actually, he doesn’t have anything to fear from us.”
He did acknowledge that the perception exists in the black community and they want to try and fix that assumption.
