Morning Joe‘s Scarborough And Brzezinski Thinking Of A Move From MSNBC? Don’t Bet On It.
In a one-line item in Cindy Adams‘ column in the New York Post Tuesday, the gossip queen asks a curious question: “MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough/Mika Brzezinski Morning Joe program looking elsewhere?”
Now what could that mean? It’s been nearly a year since The New York Times reported the Scarborough-Brzezinski radio show was going “on hiatus” in preparation for its return as a three-hour radio companion to Morning Joe:
In a news release, Citadel, the radio syndicator, said the hosts were taking a “brief hiatus” to “focus on developing the new program,” which will be three hours long.
Could Scarborough and Brzezinski be thinking of a better home than they’ve got at MSNBC? Not likely. Ratings have been rebounded after a slump in 2009, pulling ahead of CNN’s American Morning to settle into second place behind Fox’s Fox and Friends.
The line on Morning Joe has long been that while the show may not be number one, it does attract a devoted and highly influential group of viewers who value its smart, wonky chat and sense of humor. Back in 2009, when there were rumors of a shakeup on the show, bosses at 30 Rock were firm: we like the show and believe in it. And that hasn’t changed. MSNBC today flatly dismissed the Post story as complete fiction, with a rep telling Mediaite “there’s no truth to the item.”
