Dana Bash Mocks Ken Buck’s ‘Ringing Endorsement’ that New Speaker Mike Johnson ‘Has the Fewest Enemies of Anybody’
CNN anchor Dana Bash mocked Rep. Ken Buck‘s (R-CO) “ringing endorsement” of recently elected Speaker Mike Johnson for having “the fewest enemies of anybody.”
After weeks of being led without a speaker due to Kevin McCarthy’s ouster, the House elected Johnson as the chamber of the Republican majority came to a consensus. Johnson won with 220 votes to officially become the 56th speaker of the House.
The GOP caucus attempted to elect Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan, but neither candidate had enough support from hardline conservative and Republican moderates to reach the 217 votes from the chamber.
During a Wednesday interview with Bash, Buck revealed his reasoning for why Johnson is the best candidate for speaker. The interview occurred minutes before Johnson was officially elected to the speakership.
BASH: I want to bring somebody who just voted, Ken Buck, Republican of Colorado, who is here with me now. Why Mike Johnson?
JOHNSON: You know, probably because he has the fewest enemies of anybody in the Republican conference.
BASH: That’s a ringing endorsement.
JOHNSON: Well, it’s the reality of where we are right now with four vote majority. Mike is one of those people who gets along with everybody and is well respected. And I think those two factors played a big role in this.
BASH: Did you ever think that a speaker of the House would get this close to and probably attain the gavel because he or she has the fewest enemies in the House? I mean, that doesn’t sound like the headline of a resume.
JOHNSON: No, I don’t think it’s a headline of a resume, but I do think it is part of what we do in the House. We get along with people and those who don’t get along with people don’t don’t rise to this type of level.
