Dem Rep.: If We Don’t Act on ISIS, ‘We’ll Have Many More September 11ths’

New York Democrat Eliot Engel spoke on the House floor today about the threat ISIS poses to the United States, warning if the U.S. does not act, “many more September 11ths” will happen on American soil.

Engel said, “I understand that my colleagues are war weary. I’m war weary. I understand the American people are war weary. But I think doing nothing would invite something very similar that happened to my city, New York City, on that fateful day of September 11, 2001.”

He warned that conditions in Syria and Iraq now are just like they were when the U.S. “took our eye off the prize” and let Afghanistan become a safe haven for terrorists.

Engel warned, “If we do nothing, ISIS will plot and plan and we’ll have many more September 11ths in the United States, in Europe, in the Middle East.”
