Dem Rep Tells Cuomo She’s Leaving Congressional DOGE Caucus Because Elon Musk Is ‘Blowing Things Up’

Rep. Val Hoyle (D-OR) told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Thursday that she is leaving the congressional DOGE caucus due to Elon Musk “blowing things up.”

“I don’t see how we can do this work when Elon Musk is blowing things up,” she said. “It’s like trying to replace your roof when someone is throwing dynamite through the window into your living room.”

Hoyle called it “disturbing” to see how much access President Donald Trump has granted Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is on a mission to cut trillions in government spending.

“President Trump handed over the keys to the White House, to the Treasury, to government, to an unelected billionaire, and you know, it’s, quite frankly, very disturbing,” Hoyle said.

She argued what was meant to be bipartisan work with Musk’s DOGE is now not possible thanks to Musk’s sweeping actions.

“I will continue to do the work to find efficiencies, but right now, I just don’t think it’s possible with what’s happening,” Hoyle said.

The lawmaker released a statement confirming she was departing the House Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus.

“It is impossible for us to do that important work when unelected billionaire Elon Musk and his lackeys are set on burning down the government—and the law—to line his own pockets and rip off Americans across the country who depend on government services to live with dignity,” the release reads.

Democratic Reps. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and Steven Horsford (D-NV) remain in the DOGE Caucus, though the former told Axios this week, “Whether I stay in it or not, we’ll see.”
