Democratic Senator Says Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Doing Democrats’ Messaging ‘Better Than a Lot of Democrats’

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is doing a better job at communicating Democrats’ position on healthcare than some Democrats are.

The federal government is in the midst of a shutdown that began last week after the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution to keep it funded beyond Sept. 30. While Republicans control the chamber 53-47, 60 votes are necessary to advance legislation. Democrats are withholding the necessary seven votes until Republicans agree to extend healthcare premium subsidies for Obamacare recipients. Those subsidies are set to expire on Dec. 31, and will likely result in drastically higher healthcare costs for more than 20 million Americans. Senate Republicans have yet to budge on the issue.

Greene has expressed concern over rising healthcare costs and the expiration of the subsidies. On Thursday, she went on CNN and said her constituents have been “telling us stories about how they’re already paying $2,000 a month with $10,000 deductibles. I’m getting phone calls from people that are saying if the ACA tax credits expire, they aren’t going to be able to have health insurance.”

Earlier this week, she said she is “absolutely disgusted” with potential healthcare cost hikes.

On Thursday’s edition of The Source on CNN, Kaitlan Collins interviewed Gallego and played a snippet of Greene’s appearance on the network. Collins late pointed to remarks from a Democratic pollster who said, “When MTG does economic messaging better than Democrats we should take notice.”

“Is she doing messaing better than the Democrats are on this issue?” Collins asked.

“Well, she’s not doing better than me, but she’s definitely doing it better than a lot of Democrats,” Gallego responded, though he declined to name any Democrats whose messaging he feels falls short. “Marjorie Taylor Greene is right right now. The Republican Party is absolutely, you know, essentially screwing their voters and a lot of their voter base.”
