Ed Schultz Gives Up, Just Starts Drinking During His Show

It sort of seems like Ed Schultz was just looking for an excuse to start drinking early tonight. In the last few minutes of his 5pm show Friday afternoon the MSNBC host made some inscrutable comments about people who take showers after work before pulling out an oversized mug and a six-pack of local beer.
“It’s Friday, I think I’ll have a couple of cool ones, what do you think?” he told his viewers as he cracked open a can and started an unfortunately foamy pour. “Nothing like that after work, absolutely,” he added, though work was very much still in session.
The theatrics did have a broader point, as Schultz explained that craft breweries in Florida are contending with a Republican-backed bill that threatens to “crush” their entire industry. The bill would limit breweries to selling 2,000 kegs per year to customers, forcing them instead to sell through distributors, ultimately raising prices for customers.
The Florida Beer Wholesalers Association, which would benefit most from the bill, has donated far more money to those senators who are supporting the bill than to those were are against it.
It was the perfect way for Schultz to close out the week: promoting a populist message while also knocking back some “cool ones.”
