End Of Days: Jersey Shore Cast Ring Bell To Open Stock Market
This morning the unthinkable happened: the eight cast members of Jersey Shore all woke up before noon, (seemingly) un-hungover, and (mostly) covering up their habitually exposed bronze chests with (somewhat) tasteful business attire. The reason? They were the honored guests at the New York Stock Exchange in charge of ringing the opening bell.
The fist pumps were kept to a minimum, and as previously mentioned, they were decidedly demure (who knew JWoww would look so authoritative in a power suit?) but their presence alone was enough to rile up the traders on the floor. So much, in fact, that for the first time ever the NYSE ran out of guest passes for the opening bell ringing, all so that friends and family of NYSE regulars could join the party.
However, at least one person, Mark Haines of CNBC, was not thrilled with the Snookification of of the stock market. Moments before Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi‘s manicured fingernail hit the button to start the trading day, Haines’ co-anchor Erin Burnett commented that he, too, hails from the great state of New Jersey. To which he replied:
“These people are not from New Jersey. They’re from other places who came to the Jersey Shore for the summer. But they are not from New Jersey. Have I made that clear?”
He quickly modified that statement, adding that Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is from New Jersey, which, according to the MTV site for the show, isn’t even true. The only cast member who lists a city in New Jersey as her hometown is Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola. But hey, who’s keeping track?
As the booming chimes celebrating the cast’s victory over pop culture (and soon, the world!) rang on, Haines declined to share some of the more colorful comments he had made to Burnett off-air. At least this time he was able to wait until the cameras weren’t rolling.
