Florida Reporter Who Profiled U.S. Capitol Gyrocopter Pilot Speaks Out to CNN
61-year-old Florida mailman Doug Hughes landed a gyrocopter right by the U.S. Capitol earlier this afternoon to take a stand against Citizens United by giving a letter to every single member of Congress.
That didn’t exactly work, as Hughes was quickly arrested.
Ben Montgomery, a reporter for The Tampa Bay Times, knew about the gyrocopter landing ahead of time, and talked to Jake Tapper on CNN about Hughes’ frame of mind, calling the stunt “a mix of P.T. Barnum and Paul Revere.”
Montgomery said Hughes was thinking about this for about two and a half years, and earlier wrote up a profile on him, his mission, and how he reportedly had a meeting with a Secret Service agent about the very thing he did today.
