Fox & Friends Questions Whether Sequester Is ‘Needed,’ Rips Obama For Refusing To Use Executive Power

Fox & Friends talked sequestration at the beginning of the show this morning, looking at some Fox News polling about how Americans feel about the country’s spending/budget issues. Questioning whether the sequester could be a way to kickstart congressional action on spending cuts, the hosts also wondered why President Obama won’t just use executive power.

The crew looked at a poll that questioned whether sequestration is “needed to make Congress cut back on spending.” Fifty-seven percent said “only with automatic cuts,” while only 29 percent believed lawmakers could accomplish it on their own.

These respondents are “educated” people who realize the Senate hasn’t passed a budget “in however many years,” Gretchen Carlson asserted. “To an extent, they’re correct. They need help to do this. Is this the beginning of the help or is it going to happen in the wrong way?”

Speaking about callers on his radio show, Brian Kilmeade went on to note that many have wondered why the president does have more power in order to deal with this issue himself. Yet “amazingly,” Carlson replied, “he said as the leader of the free world that he did not want the power to have to make these decisions, even though he could have had the power in an executive order and chosen which way these cuts would actually happen.”

Steve Doocy provided a simple answer: “Because he wants to blame the Republicans.”
