Fox News Liberal Harold Ford Praises Trump for Sending National Guard to D.C., Says He’s ‘Pleased and Encouraged’

Harold Ford Jr. praised President Donald Trump for deploying the National Guard to Washington, D.C., ostensibly to assist in crimefighting.

At a lengthy press conference on Monday, Trump cited Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act and announced that he is taking control of the city’s Metropolitan Police Department. He is also deploying 800 National Guard members to the nation’s capital, where the president alleges that crime is rampant, though violent crime hit a 30-year low in 2024. Trump added that he is considering similar moves in other large cities run by Democrats.

Hours later on The Five on Fox News, Ford, a Democrat who served in the House for 10 years, spoke favorably of Trump’s actions.

“No one wants their pocketbook stolen,” Ford said. “No one with their kids attacked. No one wants their sister or mom raped. No one wants their grandfather shot while trying to get on the train. I read a while ago that Union Station in D.C. is a place where some of the National Guard will be deployed first, and some other neighborhoods. I’ve been in the train station early in the morning there, and it’s trying to navigate a crazy place as you’re walking through. I can’t imagine if I had my kids with me during that time.”

The co-host went on to criticize Democrats for not taking issues such as crime and the border more seriously. He then went on to note that during the presser, Trump was asked whether the National Guard could be deployed in other cities.

“The president said yes, I hope this template works and we find a way to take it to Chicago and Baltimore and Memphis and Denver, Atlanta, other places that may need it where you have communities that are wrecked by crime,” Ford continued. “Liberals don’t like crime, conservatives don’t like don’t like crime, Blacks don’t like crime, whites don’t like crime. Let’s get rid of it. And that’s why I was pleased and encouraged by what the president did today.”
