Fox’s Karl Rove Praises White House Spox: ‘Strongest Possible Spokesman They Have’ in a ‘Tough Situation’

Fox News contributor and former Bush 43 White House adviser Karl Rove praised White House spokesman John Kirby immediately after the official was interviewed on the network.

Appearing on Monday’s episode of The Story, Kirby discussed the Israel-Hamas war and the ongoing negotiations with Hamas to secure the release of additional hostages taken during the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel. About 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were abducted.

Kirby is a frequent guest on the program, where he routinely faces tough interviews from host Martha MacCallum. After peppering him with questions about the negotiations, the war, and U.S. support of Israel amid mounting civilian deaths in Gaza, MacCallum bid Kirby adieu and welcomed Rove to the program.

“Karl, what are you hearing in this discussion right now?” she asked him.

“Well, first after all, there is a reason why they put Admiral Kirby out,” Rove said. “He’s the strongest possible spokesman that they have. And look, this is a tough situation. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it.”

He went on to note that the U.S. is not in control of the negotiations, which are “principally between “Israel, Egypt, Qatar, and Hamas. We’re a participant in it. We’re a validator, but we’re not the people sitting at the table making the negotiations. So, we have to live with the decisions that… those negotiations arrive at.”

Rove went on to say that whatever the outcome is, no side will be happy about it.

Kirby’s official title is National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications. He has been increasingly visible in the Biden administration since moving to the White House from the Pentagon as its press secretary last year.
