Gay Trump Cabinet Secretary Slams Kamala Harris for Snubbing Pete Buttigieg
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unloaded on Kamala Harris for snubbing former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as her 2024 running mate because of his “sexuality,” calling it proof of “how low regard she holds American people.”
In 107 Days, Harris’s new memoir of her presidential campaign, she recounts the frantic process to select a running mate as she prepared to run against Donald Trump. She discloses that Buttigieg was her “first choice” for the ticket, writing that “he would have been an ideal partner – if I were a straight white man,” but that he was “too big of a risk.” She ultimately turned to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz instead.
During an appearance on Fox Business on Wednesday, host Maria Bartiromo rolled back a clip of Harris doubling down in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow before she pressed Bessent, a married gay man, on the former vice president’s admission. He did not hold back:
First shows her emphasis on identity politics and the American people moved on, two, it shows how low regard she holds the American people. She was just a terrible candidate.
Refusing to spare Buttigieg the dignity of having been a good choice of running mate, the Treasury Secretary slammed the Democrat’s record:
You wouldn’t pick Pete Buttigieg because he might have been worst Transportation Secretary in history. I can tell you, your friend, my friend, Sean Duffy is great Transportation Secretary. Pete Buttigieg left him a mess, the FAA is a disaster, Amtrak – anything to do with transportation was woefully neglected over past four years.
Rounding on Harris once more, he took aim at the pair together in a scathing takedown:
So, she judges him on identity, his sexuality. Let’s look and see whether he did a good job, let’s look on merit and I can tell you on merits a failure and on merits she is a failure.
“Amen to merit,” Bartiromo cheered in reply.
