Geraldo Rivera Gushes Over Trump’s ‘Brilliant’ Tariffs Move, Says He Had World Believing He Was on ‘Suicide Mission’: ‘You Can’t Beat This Guy’
Geraldo Rivera claimed President Donald Trump “suckered” the world into thinking he was on a “suicide mission” with his tariffs.
Trump announced on Wednesday that he was putting a 90-day pause on many of the tariffs he had imposed just days before. The change in course came as the markets took major hits. The president paused some tariffs, but raised others — including on China.
Rivera claimed Trump “ambushed” China, which is now facing a 125% tariff from the United States.
“I believe that he ambushed China,” he said. “I believe that he suckered the whole world into believing that he was going to go down in this harakiri, this suicide mission against the world. I think with him it’s so much spontaneous, but I believe it evolved. I mean, Monday, so many people were feeling terrible pain. The markets were tanking. It was no end in sight. People were watching their 401Ks, their IRAs disappear.”
Rivera added that he couldn’t “understand” Trump targeting the European Union and other nations in similar fashion to China, but he was convinced of his former friend’s “brilliant” plan during a meeting with a financial insider friend. Rivera added that he feels “sorry for all the people who chickened out and sold out” amid market uncertainty.
“We all are talking. ‘Oh my God, this is awful, but we’re doing the right thing. You have to have courage. You have to stick it out.’ I went to my Twitter followers. I said, please don’t sell. This is on Sunday and Monday. Please don’t sell unless you absolutely have to. And then, you know, look what he does. Surprise. You know, this is why Trump is triumphant. This is why you can’t beat this guy,” he said.
