GOP Strategist Slams Trump For Pushing ‘Malicious’ Hurricane Relief ‘Misinformation’ That’s Hurting His ‘Own Voters’

Republican strategist Doug Heye slammed former President Donald Trump and his campaign for playing “stupid politics” in pushing “misinformation” about the federal government’s Hurricane Helene relief efforts that are hurting his “own voters.”

Despite claims from officials on the ground to the contrary, Trump has claimed that emergency funding for the federal response to Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in North Carolina was being spent on immigrants. During Sunday’s rally in Wisconsin, the Republican nominee further claimed that citizens of the states impacted haven’t seen “anybody from the federal government yet.” Almost 7,000 federal personnel are on the ground in the affected states.

Heye, who is from North Carolina, appeared on a CNN panel on Monday night and told host Anderson Cooper that the areas of his state most impacted by last week’s hurricane were counties that voted overwhelmingly in support of Trump.

There’s also brass politics in this is, but it’s also stupid politics. The reality is the area of North Carolina that was hit is overwhelmingly Republican. Of the 25 counties that are under emergency declaration, Donald Trump won all of them but two There are about 185,000 more Republicans than there are Democrats in that area.

So by spreading this misinformation, you’re hurting your own voters first and we know Donald Trump takes his people as a special case. He’s damaging them for his own political goods. That’s malicious.

Watch above on CNN.
