Gretchen Carlson Asks Rep. Van Hollen How He’ll Help Biden Be Less ‘Gaffetastic’ In Upcoming Debate
On Wednesday, Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson sat down with Rep. Chris Van Hollen in Charlotte, asking him about how he’s helping Vice President Joe Biden prepare for his upcoming debate with Mitt Romney running mate Paul Ryan.

When asked whether he thought Ryan was a good debater, Van Hollen responded that, sure, he is — but “the question is the use of facts on the budget.”
Carlson noted that the “counter” to fact-check concerns over Ryan’s speech would be Biden’s history of gaffes, playing several snippets of his recent missteps. “Just yesterday, Congressman,” she pointed out, “he said, i’f it weren’t so hot, I’d go into detail.’ Isn’t this the time and place to be getting into details and how you help him not make those mistakes?”
“You’re going to hear lots of details,” said Van Hollen. “The Vice President has been through lots of debates in his life. Obviously he served in the Senate. He’s run for president. He knows how to debate. The issue is making sure that he has a sense of how Paul Ryan likes to present the other side of the argument.” As for Biden’s gaffes, Van Hollen said that “he always speaks from the heart” and “people like that about him.”
