Fox’s Gutfeld Slams Chuck Todd Admitting Media’s ‘Fear’ of Reporting on Biden Decline: ‘Blow the Whistle DURING the Play’
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld tore into former NBC anchor Chuck Todd over his admission that the media was afraid to cover former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical state.
On Friday’s Gutfeld!, Gutfeld and his panel went off on Todd after watching a clip of him on Wednesday telling Piers Morgan that the media was “subtle” in its Biden reporting and some were likely afraid negative Biden coverage would mean they would be helping now-President Donald Trump.
“Look, we were subtle. ‘He’s using the back staircase, he’s not using the front staircase. Hey, he’s not doing any interviews,” the former Meet the Press anchor told Morgan. “So there was this reluctance to draw the conclusion to say, ‘Is he not doing this?’ And that I agree with. That was held back, held back a lot.”
Todd does not buy into a full-blown “cover up” by the White House, but he argued members of media made a “fundamental mistake” in their coverage of concerns about Biden’s age and decline.
“I understand the argument about the collective on that front. The only thing I can chalk it up to is this — whatever you want to call it — this fear that some members of the media had sometimes that they would be perceived as helping Trump if they somehow diminished Biden,” he said.
Gutfeld was not buying it and accused Todd of “pretending he’s not part of the problem.”
The Fox News host reminded Todd that he was part of the very “media” he’s criticizing over Biden.
Gutfeld said:
He’s right, the press didn’t report the truth about Joe because they were afraid that would have helped Trump. But Chuck, you are the press, and the fear of helping Trump was your doing. I seem to remember your dependable mockery if anyone appeared to say something favorable about Trump.
So listen to Chuck talk about how members of the media wrongly protected Biden. It’s like hearing a Menendez brother complain that he’s an orphan. Chuck’s trying to pretend he wasn’t part of the problem like when I blame my browsing history on my twin brother Garth.
Gutfeld mocked Todd for referring to covering Biden doing less public events as “subtle.”
“Subtle is not the word. How about derelict? Sorry, Chuck, subtle is offering your drunk friend a glass of water. Instead, you saw the Biden mess and said, another round of shots!” he joked.
The Fox News host blasted Todd for blowing the “whistle” too late.
“The worst offenders suddenly become the whistleblower, but you can only blow the whistle during the play, you know?” he said. “Not months or a year or two later. You can’t suddenly be the whistleblower, or you should have been blowing your damn whistle while it was happening.”
