Harry Reid on When He Was Informed of Bergdahl Swap: ‘What Difference Does It Make?’
On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was asked if he believed that the White House could have done a better job of working within the law that requires Congress be provided with a 30 day notice before prisoners are released from Guantanamo. Reid asserted that the press was splitting hairs about when Congress was informed of the deal. “What difference does it make?” he asked.
“The timeline was very, very brief here,” Reid said. “We all know that the president had a very short period of time to make a decision. He made a decision to bring [Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl] home, and I’m glad he did.”

Reid said that it is his opinion that Bergdahl was in danger every day that he remained in Taliban captivity.
When asked why he was, as reported, the only member of Congress who was informed of the swap the day before it occurred, Reid said that he was not sure he was “the only one.”
“The whole deal, is it Friday or Saturday? What difference does it make?” Reid said. “What difference does it make?”
