Republican Wearing Trump Tie Says ‘Everything We Do in the House’ Should Be Geared Toward ‘Getting Donald Trump Reelected’

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) told CNN flat out that the House of Representatives should act with the sole aim of ensuring Donald Trump wins November’s presidential election.

CNN’s Manu Raju spent much of the day speaking with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where the House will vote next week on whether to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his position. The vote is being forced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who is incensed by Johnson ushering through short-term spending bills to fund the government, as well as several foreign aid packages.

Greene does not appear to have the votes necessary to remove Johnson, but on Wednesday, she remained defiant.

“What you guys need to know is I really don’t give a rat’s ass what anybody up here says about what I’m doing,” she told reporters while standing on the steps of the Capitol.

Raju queried several House members, including at least one Democrat who said they will vote to keep Johnson in his position because he managed to get the aforementioned pieces of legislation through the chamber.

“I disagree with Speaker Johnson in a number of ways, but he lived up to his commitments to put this bill on the floor,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-TX).

Meanwhile, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said, “I think in an election year right now, it probably doesn’t portend too well.”

Nehls was more explicit about this being an election year.

“Everything that we do in the House of Representatives should be in the best interests of getting Donald Trump reelected,” he said while holding up his tie with multiple images of Trump on it. “This guy right here.”
