During his interview with Jeb Bush on Thursday, Jake Tapper read aloud the comments that Donald Trump recently made to Rolling Stone about Carly Fiorina’s face. As Tapper explained, Trump defended himself by saying he was actually referring to her “persona” and not her “looks.”

“Do you believe him?” Tapper asked. “What’s your view of that comment?”

“Look, I don’t get it,” Bush replied. “I don’t see how over the long haul that you can insult your way to the nomination — certainly not the presidency and not the nomination, either.”

Left unsaid was Bush’s underlying subtext: “I don’t get” how this man is still beating me in every, single poll.

“This disparaging of women is deeply troubling,” Bush added. “It just doesn’t make any sense. Carly Fiorina has made a good contribution already and will continue to make a contribution in this nomination process. She should be respected as a talented person and a viable candidate.”

Tapper also asked Bush whether he agrees or disagrees with Bobby Jindal’s assessment of Trump as a “narcissist” and “egomaniac.” Bush answered with two words: “I agree.”
